A friend of mine posted her fishercat photo from her wildlife webcam. A pretty and a nasty predator. I have heard them but never have seen one.

Wow! Close to your home, Cat'??

This wasn't the neighbor who lost the chickens, right? I'm sure the fisher would be very happy with a chicken dinner but that "bit their head off" reminds me of all the press on raccoons.

We have fishers here. I once discovered one on his way down my driveway! My driveway was about 200 yards at that home in the woods. He was a very pretty red-brown. He showed no appreciation of me admiring his coloring and just turned and disappeared!

I had the same experience when I was out with the dogs and it was a badger. I felt that was very fortunate - I was literally "beside myself" how to warn off the badger without alerting the dogs to his presence! The fisher probably would have just gone up a tree. I'd have time to drag the dogs off ;).

It's about a mile from my house. I have heard them behind my house-fairly close really. My neighbors who lost the chickens were blaming it on a fisher cat. The heads were bit off. I don't know their habits. I do know that raccoons seem to kill for pleasure.

I don't think raccoons kill for pleasure. I have had a lot of dealing with those SOB's and I think it comes down to cowardice. I think they get into a chicken coop and kill a chicken for food, then kill the others so it feels safe, and won't be attacked. That explains why raccoons only eat one or two, but bite the heads off the others and leave them lay. Or, as some predators do, they kill to come back later and feed again.

Wow, very cool! Looks like they are found in my area, but i dont know anything about them. Wikipedia tells me their back ankles are extremely maneuverable, and can turn almost 180 degrees to climb down trees headfirst!!

never heard of a fisher cat until recently. pretty creature. nothing like that here.
once when vacationing in Utah, I saw a wolverine from quite a distance. the binoculars were great. I was so excited because I knew that was a very rare sighting. they have a very distinctive body proportion (length to height) and their gait is also very distinctive.
later that day we saw a forest ranger. he said I did not see a wolverine. they rarely came that far south. he had a few pictures posted on his office wall. I said, that is the animal I saw - what is that? he said, that is a wolverine, but you did not see that.

well, to this day - I say I did, and that's that!

Bad enough when they do not believe the million people over the world that have seen bigfoot. We do not have bears here but they were were here for the 2 past summers.
