I have tile in my kitchen and love how easy it is to maintain. Years ago we put in oak floors in the front rooms. Thirty years later they still look brand new. We've only had one large indoor dog. All floors were professionally done. My husband is of the opinion that you get what you pay for.

We are installing the water resistant vinyl plank flooring in this house. Its the second home we've put it in. If the washer overflows, then we lift up the planks (locking) and let everything dry. Even dragging a washer and then a queen bed frame across it didn't scratch it. We have hardwood in many parts of the house, so we wanted to go over it with this stuff. But we'll be moving yet again next year, so we'll just refinish the HW right before it goes on the market. The dogs tear up the hardwood. Not the vinyl plank flooring tho.
My sister has vinyl plank flooring in her downstairs and ceramic tile. The house has flooded several times, most recently in hurricane Harvey that put 7 feet of water in the house, washed the walls away-brick, insulation and sheetrock-you could see all the way through the house. But the floors were just fine!

@ninnymary and @Nyboy Sure wish you could convince my DH of that. So many fixes around here are do-it-yourself and only TEMPORARY! Ha :(
Could be from habit from his childhood. I agree that in principle you get what you pay for. Sometimes it’s just over priced due to brand. Some of us were raised with nothing and we learned to get by cheap as we had no $$$. Even now, it’s hard to break old habits.

Yep @seedcorn His Dad was a can do guy with little cash. DH learned from him. He is fully capable of doing the job right the 1st time. But does not. Always plans to go back and do it right later. HA! Yes @Nyboy I hope it changes, but do not see it happening. :(
