thistle, I've tried growing hostas in the ground and for some reason they don't grow. The ones in my pots don't get very tall. Any choral bells planted their would not be seen. The strawberry planter outside that area would hide them. The area is not very big, especially since I need to leave room to be able to get in there. I think my problem is that when those lillies flop it's time to cut them down. That leaves a bare spot in there for a couple of months. I need some something in there with color for the meantime.

I appreciate all your help and suggestions.

Mary, some hostas just don't do well in the ground for whatever reason and are recommended for containers, maybe that's the type you've had.
