Larisa, what's some good advice to keep Alex alive? I have very poor experience with inside plants, although I rather gave up on them years ago and have more time now.

I'll show you how I take care of phalaenopsis. When I buy a phalaenopsis, I see that it is growing in a transparent plastic pot. His soil-pine bark. Some days I do not touch it, and just a little watered. He has to get used to the house. If the roots are good, or it blooms, you can leave it for a few months. I think Alex is no problem now. In the summer I go to the forest.

There I collect the bark of pine, moss and fern roots. The bark should be as small pieces. The roots of the fern be divided into segments. All this should be dry and mix. You can add a bit of fine coal. It is an ideal primer for Phalaenopsis.

For transplant Phalaenopsis need a pot that has many holes. At its bottom, you can put a little foam plastic.

The plant is necessary to remove from the pot and inspect for transplant his roots. If part of the roots of a bad - it should be cut. You must to roots incision sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered charcoal. Then a little dry. Then you put the plant in a new pot, then carefully place the new soil between the roots. ImpIortant- wet soil in advance!

Above you can put a little moss.It can spray water from the sprinkler. If the air in the house is dry, it will help retain moisture the roots.

Older branches with flowers is not necessary to cut. From his new kidney will grow new flower stalks.
Watering - depends on your environment. But @Nyboy the rights, it must be scant. Can be 1 time a for 2 week to immerse the entire pot in water for 30 minutes.
Or one just a few days to wet the ground and pour the excess water from the tray. :)
