I always imagined that these either required a VERY tight girth or a horse with VERY prominent withers. I've ridden several horses with nearly flat withers and could slip the saddle nearly to the sliding off the side point with ease. I can't imagine how hard it would be to keep a saddle - and myself - centered with only one stirrup and a flat-backed horse.

That required a very gentle horse and a good sense of balance. I'll stick to my western saddle! LOL
