Forcing tomatoes to ripen... time frame

Yeah, the flavor is never the same for the 1/2of the tomatoes that we have to ripen inside.... this year though it might have to be all of what little there is. :| When I left them, most were in the enlarging stage where they hadn't started to whiten any so I don't know if they'd ever turn.

The hanging upside down method is the only one I have heard of. I was hoping to avoid that.

To pick them don't they need to be close? Most of mine are as green as the leaves.
