I grew the green envy zinnia a few years ago, not thinking I would be impressed by a green flower, but it was beautiful. Huge plants and big blooms, I got lots of compliments.

I hope the JP season is over for you @Carol Dee , dang things!

(They stink?)

Zinnias have problems with leaf spot AND mildew.

Before I began using a fungicide on them regularly, it would sometimes be a race between the fungus and the frost as to which would kill the zinnias first. Not the most attractive situation ...

Slugs don't seem to like sliming across most any pesticide, at least, from my experience. That is a positive ...

I actually have surviving zinnias in my massive fail of a garden. They are battling weeds, super rains followed by dry heat, rabbits and grasshoppers.

I vote for zinnias!

To me, yes, they have a foul odor-& I don't mean fowl odor.

I never really noted them to have much of an odor at all, but I have sinus allergies a lot, so maybe I've missed it.

I finally got some oriental lilies to bloom and picked a pale yellow one yesterday. My DH and the girls think it smells great, but I think it smells putrid for some reason. Must be one of those things people's noses may perceive differently.

Thanks to Nyboy, I just planted zinnias in my wheel barrel! They are multi colors and I edged them with purple lobelia. Hope they do better than the impatients that were there.
