Foundation Plantings: What Are They For?

Mary how do you keep everything so neat with a daycare?

The front yard is my husband's domain. Mine is the backyard. But he's very meticulous. Cuts and edges the lawn weekly. He's not crazy about the boxwood. Claims it grows too slowly. He also keeps asking me if my yellow lantana there is dead. Keep telling him it's just partly dormant and will look pretty later on. He can't stand ugly front yards in the city. There are no weeds at our place and everyone comments on that. lol

Nice to have a man that cares, that's for sure! Won't have to nag that one to do yard chores.

I agree with your husband,front yards are peoples first impression. Keep mess out of sight in back yard.

That's how I do it too. No shoes or mess on the front porch where people arrive, nice and neat out front. First impressions run deep.

Neither of us like messes, front or back! lol I'm sure it would be different if we were in the country. Although come to think of it, our cabin is also very neat. haha

I like the espalier idea. Here's a trellis made with a cattle panel that looks pretty classy from Pinterest.

Did you read that article in the link to MEN? Lots of fruit that guy got from his espalier trees. I've always been intrigued by that method and wonder why folks in town, on small lots and such, don't choose to grow food in that manner. So much food can be grown in small spaces if folks just do the research.

OMGosh! You must have read my mind! I was need a trellis for my DD's yard. They have a narrow sidewalk just east of the one car garage, with a ~10 inch wide bed, and I was thinking "trellis." THIS makes so much sense for me because of cost. I still have like 35 feet of cattle fencing in a roll in one of my outbuildings. After we put in the horse fencing we don't need it anymore. SOOOOO much cheaper to frame it in wood and paint it white and then attach to the stud walls of the garage.
