Fruit tree's bud union?

I'm currently trying to get an orchard planted and so far have 6 fig trees and a cherry tree I planted last year. I was reading about planting fruit trees and they discussed planting the tree so the grafted bud union is 2 inches above the soil. I noticed my cherry tree's bud union is level with the soil, is this Ok you think? The cherry tree is growing really great though.
Do you really pay attention with the depth of the bud union? I'm concerned as I don't want to plant future trees wrong.

As long as roots do not grow above the bud union or limbs grow from below the bud union, you are OK.

I didn't find any growth or roots near the grated bud union. I'll be sure to remove any growth if it appears in that area. The tree is growing really well I was amazed at how much growth its put on so far and the growing season has just started.
