I did the same thing as your last year, the same size too, only I hung them on twine.
Everyone who comes by always says how cute they are.
Your garden is looking great!

Thanks... I think the best part is slowly getting all the extra wood piled up under the deck gone!

I wouldn't have bothered with it had I not just had everything here.

I bet twine looked nice! I wish I had that, but I only had left over wire from doing the grape vine.

My plant labels are fairly inexpense. And they will last probably for longer than I will be on this planet.

I use concrete and small plastic containers and some alphabet stamps for concrete stepping stones, found at craft stores. Or you can use a nice pointed or chisel point stick to write the name of the plants.

Here are a few I made.

These were too small to use the letter stamps I used some soap molds. I just used a stick to write the letters. and used the design stamps for decoration.

These are with the concrete letter stanps I used an old frozen dinner plate to get that shape.

The plan is to have these for most of my plants. One of my neighbors thinks I should put the Latin names on the markers, but... they would have to be the size of grave stones to do that.

I did once see some cute markers for "dead" plants. Sort of a "Here Lies" with a cute saying. A few of those would be handy for when something just refuses to live in the desert.

gorgeous Reb! I just don't have concrete on hand to finish up :/ I would prefer something I knew would last forever! But I just don't have the money to spend right now.

I did some gorgeous tiles similar at the garden shop, they were finished in color and glazed... but only 4"x4" in size and the only plants they had labels for were herbs.

They wanted $5.99 each!!! :/

Pretty, but not working for me.... I'm too hands on to pay that much when I know I could create something. :D

I hope more people post more creative ways of making markers.... Maybe on those hotter summer says I could start a new project.

The markers are beautiful and I have all the concrete in the world but I just can't see me out there writting "Brandywine Pink Sudduth" in concrete. I wouldn't have any room to plant anything! lol

I did find pretty good markers today though. I was going to use popsicle sticks which is what I use in my indoor flats but they were really too small so I picked up 30 paint stirrers for $.06 each and I can clear coat them after I put the names on and they should last a couple of years that way.

I love all the creative ways to label plants, especially the concrete markers. However, I don't label my plants. :ep I just keep track of where everything is in my loose leaf garden notes. So far I have only had one incidence of getting my tomato seedlings disorganized and not remembering for sure which were which and needing to know because I was giving some to a friend, so I just gave them extra tomato plants just in case.
