Marshall, they all want to lay in the nest so they can make a huge pile of eggs for 1 hen to eventually go broody. moma hens just don't hatch their own eggs, they want to hatch everyone's from the coop!

i'd watch this girl. i think she's getting broody if she's been that feisty! :p

Too funny! I often come across that arrangement! I have nest boxes that none of them lay in. They have a few "favorites"!

 Too funny! My hens refuse to lay eggs in nesting boxes..They just make a few nest's on the floor with straw and hay..And then they all take turns laying in the same two nests..When they get broody, I ususally have two hens either fighting to sit on the nest when they go broody, and when either refuse to leave they both sit on it at the same time..lol.. or i have at least two that take turns on the other nest..It's pretty comical.

This is not even their nest box. It is the droppings board under their roost. Needless to say, I keep it cleaned up and fresh sawdust for their pooping/nesting pleasure. Now that we built a new roost, the hens waiting to lay will climb to the top ladder and yell their heads off. They don't SLEEP on the new roost, just use it as a perch to vent their displeasure that "their" nest is occupied. The SLW hen has it going on, she did lay her egg right on top of the black sex-link hen's back. It rolled to the sawdust below. Goofy birds, gotta love 'em!

She appears to be a sliver laced wyanodotte - and a very nice one too!
I love the expression on her face - like she's thinking "What's WRONG with this nest? It's all lumpy!" Stomp-stomp-stomp.

She is a silver laced wyandotte. She lays light brown eggs. Wyandottes come in a variety of colors. They are a beautiful bird. Look them up for all the different colors they come in!
