youtube has lots of videos of coyote being hunt with dogs. They have greyhound type run coyote down, then pit bull type for finishing off coyote. I guess different parts of country do things differently.

I'll have to take a look at those! Should be interesting. Around here there are just too many trees and mountains for sight hounds to be chasing something as fast as a coyote. Maybe they do this out on the plains?

Now THIS is cool!!!! They are using their dogs as decoys to bring the coyotes in far enough to get a good shot. Using the coyote's own techniques against them...how cool is that? I'd love to get in on a hunt like that....must be some level of satisfaction in killing a 'yote that's chasing your dog. :D

There is the Borzoi in Russia and the Wolfhound in Ireland ... both are bred to run down wolves !!! In Cal. , on our neighbor's 10,000 acre cattle ranch, there are many oak trees and there are areas where one would have to crawl on one's hands and knees to get through the brush. Then there are areas where you can see for miles with only grass . There are 3 places on this ranch where there are many rock outcroppings in the foothills / mountains with small caves among them that are used as dens and populated with dozens of coyotes. Twice a year ( spring and fall ) the owner invites all us neighbors, friends and relatives for a weekend of coyote hunting and then a beef steak bbq afterwords. 20-40 coyotes meet their end at each hunt. We use a predator call as a lure in while sitting among brush, trees or rocks. Or we just ride in a pick-up until we see one 100 yards or much farther away and shoot on sight. Our ranch is 1 mile from the ranch owners' house, so we get about 10-20 or more coyotes for a community sing every day after sundown and just before sunrise on and / or near our 20 acre ranch. We can hear other packs in every direction all around us. We have seen and shot quite a few coydogs that have characteristics of Golden Retriever , Labrador Retriever that are yellowish in color, and one that looked like a German Shepherd cross.

My first purebred dog was a borzoi, she was a gentle giant. I could never imagine how these dogs where used to hunt wolves, till I watched her crack a thick bone with out even trying.

Wise cats. I've lost any I had to coyotes around here but there is a feral tom that has survived very well year after year, so some are savvy, some are not.

There was lady on next block feeding stray cats. None where fixed every year there numbers increased. Till the coyotes move in, all but 3 are gone. The 3 have been around for a few years so they learned how to hide when there around. Darwin in action.
