Thanks, Mama for this thread. I think when people start gardening they get bummed out bc the plants dry out or the weeds take over and they start thinking that "EVERYBODY knows how to garden, except ME."
I think it REALLY helps to see the unvarnished truth. Nice lookin' plot, btw.
New gardeners can get discouraged when plants reach the end of their life, or when they're taken out by weather/bugs, for sure. I still do. I just have to remind myself that I can always pull out what's no longer productive and prepare the soil for the next planting. That changes my mindset and gets me excited about what I can plant and grow next!
I have a few beds now that are done for spring/summer. I'm letting the chickens have their way with them *grin*, and will soon add more boards to the top of the raised bed borders and add more soil and compost, and prepare them for the next planting. Here in Central TX we can get two growing seasons, but I don't bother with trying to keep too much alive in the high heat of mid summer and early fall.
