Garden gloves, do you or don't you?

oops I did it again. I took the trash out saw the weeeds around the sunflowers and zinnias and starting weeding. See what my hands look like when I got done with about 10 minutes work! :tools Still even when I know I am heading out to pull weeds I will leave the gloves in the closet. Do you wear gloves? Or Not? I guess I have not found any I like to work in. Suggestions are welcome.

I use leather gloves for thistles and other prickly things. If I am out for a long time I have gloves that keep my fingers free but protect the back of my hands from the sun. Like you I can't find a pair of fingered gloves that I fell comfortable in so I just keep my fingernails short so I can get my hands clean. We do have a jar of stuff that you can put on your hands and supposedly keeps the dirt off. I believe it is similar to what mechanics use for grease. However, in five years have I ever remembered to use it? Nope!

I like gloves and use them most times, I like the kind that has a cloth back and a rubber palm.I buy these for the both of us and get the size that fits the wife, they fit me better because my fingers go to the end and they feel tight so I have better control

I plan on doing some more weeding today. I actually use Derma-Max Nitrile gloves. I'm not particularly fond of typical garden gloves because I can't 'feel' what I'm doing with my finger tips, and especially when pulling weeds, you need your finger tips to get a good hold on the base. I just reuse what I can and recycle what I can't. Sweaty hands are the only real drawback lol.

I hate gloves so I don't wear them most of the time but I do keep a pair around for pulling prickly weeds. I also have a pair of thin driving gloves I use for handling rabbits that are cranky. They can tear up your hands if they start fighting you.

I always have the best intentions, when it comes to gloves. Somewhere, somehow, they end up in the bottom of a pile of weeds!! When people say I have a green thumb- I usually show them, and they see it is, black!! If I am going somewhere special I will clean those cracks with a little bleach- so I don't look too awful!
I have seen recommended that you can scratch a bar of soap-to fill up under your nails- so the dirt doesn't go under them. I always forget to try it- keep me posted if you do!

I can't stand using gloves, it's too hard for me to get a good grip on the weeds if I wear 'em. And I usually end up somehow getting dirt inside the gloves anyway. Besides, a little dirt is good for you--strengthens the immune system .

No gloves for me at home, I just never remember them, and I'm used to washing my hands like 80 million times a day anyway!! I did wear gloves when I was a PAID gardener, all day long, 5 days a week...that was pretty rough on them. I found some gloves for wet days that were, um, whatever they make scuba suits out of...wet suits...that did not have tips on the index and middle finger or thumb, so it kept the rest of my hands WARM, but I could still pull weeds - because we would work even when it was cold and nasty and rainy out!! My hands got SOOOO prune-y in them, but it was better than cold hands.

I will usually put on gloves for heavy work or prickly stuff, but even then sometimes I forget. My husband wears his gloves faithfully and I am a little embarrassed to admit that his hands are softer than mine! By Sunday morning, I look at my short, pathetic nails and the tomato stains on the tips of my fingers and then I wish I would have worn my gloves. But by Monday, I've forgotten about it again.

My nails look worse! LOL
