That reminds me of a story a friend who was in the military told me. They were doing a patrol through a market, and passed an old woman selling dried beans and such. One of the things she had to offer was a bag full of dried soup peas with marmorated seed coats (that streaky mottled coat you see on some really old pea strains, like the Carlin.
