go outside and fire up the lawnmower until he comes out and gets his running and starts mowing and then turn it off and go back inside...
we have people who come along and mow the sides of the road (these are people up and down the road who have nothing better to do apparently...). i just wave at them anyways -most the time i don't know who it is (i can't always see them very well if i don't have my glasses on).
