Do you keep good notes on what you've planted? I map out a sketch of my garden's layout and write down the date I planted each row. For things I'm saving seed from, I keep track of DTM and other important details. If something did really well or failed miserably, I also write that in my notebook. I keep all of my notebooks from year to year for reference. How about you?

Well, there doesn't seem to be a category for "I used to keep a garden journal on my computer but that computer broke and now I don't have a journal started yet on my new one." No, I didn't back up my file. :hide

I advise printing them out.

My now-and-then journaling went on for about 5 years. What really helped was coming up with some kind of schedule. It took me about that long to work it out. Plant now -- what does it do then.

I refer back to that every year, folks. There were decades of previous experience, which must have counted for something. But, there has now been 25 years of me thumbing through those 5 years.

We are hit and miss with the record keeping. We start with the garden all mapped out and where to plant what , then forget ot enter dates and varieties planted. Oh well it is a start. Still using pencil and paper, too. :)

I answered yes and no. Just to even your poll out Journey. :p

Yes, I start out well, dates and varieties are marked down when I do the indoor starts, the garden areas are sketched out and labeled with what my intended plants will be in which areas. Then I leave the notebook in the house and plant where I think I remember I was intending to, add plants in empty spots, remember a better place for something or other.

I do actually look at my notebook later and kick myself for abandoning the orderliness of keeping records. But the truth is apparent that I am hopeless with these things.

I thought I was being very smart leaving the nursery tags on all the trees I plant. One day my nephew was doing yard work at my house. Not being able to stand being away from girlfriend for any amount of time he asked her to come keep him company while he worked. I guess she got bored quickly and wandered around. When I come home from work she proudly ran up to me, to show how she went to every tree and bush removing the tags, I must have forgot to do. She had 2 big handfuls of tags. She had such a big smile thinking she did good.It took every acting ablity I had to say thank you and smile back.
