seedcorn, your garden setting looks so peaceful. I love the surrounding area. Those snapdragons look hugh! and I love your grandma's garden. I lived with my grandma for 2 yrs. and she was pretty special. She was a gardener.

Cassandra, your garden looks very lush. So many cukes! I only have 1 spacemaster and it only has 1 cuke! Not sure if it's worth it for me.

Mary
If you got the bush cuke for space reasons I would next year plant a vining cuke w/ a trellis, it won't take up any more land space then the bush one and I bet would produce better for you.

Wow... I love that everyone's gardens are taking off so fruitfully! :coolsun

Don't you all feel "complete" inside right now? I was just thinking about the feeling I had all winter about something "missing" in part of my life. I was missing spring and needing the taste of fresh veggies again for too long. I just feel satisfied right now, and like everything finally came full circle. Just wondering if anyone else had that feeling now all our gardens are rolling full force? :p

Mary, I planted 4 burpless cukes and 8 pickling bush cukes. The burpless are going up some tri-pod trellises... I could only find bush kind for the pickling ones last minute. Kass is right, If you trellis the vining ones, I've never noticed a difference in the space they take up. I'm about to plant a few more cuke vines this weekend, because I always loss my cukes to downy mildew eventually... even the 'resistant' ones. So I like to have a second planting starting for when I rip out the first. I just can't win that battle with those things because no matter what I do, I can't get REALLY good air circulation.

My problem is that all the space at the back of my veggie bed is taken up with tomatoes and my trellised green beans. I don't have any room to trellis a cuke. My spacemaster is in a 15 gal. container. Maybe next year, I could trellis one in that container?

Yes, my photography skills lack MUCH to be desired. Don't understand it looks correct on phone then when transferred to computer it's sideways, go figure.

Yes it is peaceful as I have a rocker under kids old wood play swing set. You can see the little red bird house that now has a pair of barn swallows nesting in it, chickens to the left, and a hummingbird feeder to my back. They love to fight to get position on the feeder. The only time they dive bomb me when feeder goes out. Across the creek, are a bunch of pheasants where you can hear them crow. Down the creek are quail that love to sing. The dog also found some woodcocks that I didn't even know were here. I've set up a bird feeder that cardinals, house finches, sparrows, doves, wrens and a few other locals come to eat. All in all, yes very peaceful.----especially if wife and daughter leave me alone...........

Better put some of the river cobble around that rocker, Seedcorn. Then, they can't sneak up on you while you are napping ;).

And, take out some insurance on that place - bird houses and all. Value above nominal can go for peace of mind.

edited to add: and we want more photo's. i'd bet you have a curved arrow somewhere in your picture folder to click - see what happens when you do that. or, right click your photo and open in Paint just to see if you can rotate them there. then save them. however, we are a tolerant bunch of critics.

I'm hurt and confused. I can't believe ANYONE would want to give me a hard time. I'm never controversial or would ever do that to anyone here or any of my friends (ducking from lightning bolts). If you want to give me a hard time, you will have to bring it much stronger than what you have. ;)
