I got my garlic planted yesterday! :weee Thanks to Chickie and Ridgerunner, I have a shot at getting my garlic bed growing again. Chickie also sent me a bunch of bulbils that I am really looking forward to starting in the spring. I have never grown garlic from bulbils so this will be a wonderful experience!

I planted garlic today! It has to be better than last year's efforts........I wound up with less than what I planted-would've been better off just to eat the seed rather than plant it. :/ Here's to this year!

I had a fair harvest; pretty good since it was my first attempt. But it isn't very strong tasting. My fingers hardly even smell after dicing some. Could growing conditions be the culprit, or type? It was some grocery store garlic.

Thanks for the reminder, Monty. That is something that got buried at the bottom of my to-do list and I almost forgot!

Me, too! Me, too! I have some waiting for planting and haven't given they a thought. Going to have to get them in quick!

wish my weather wasn't so crummy this past weekend. i went though all the different types i've bought since i shipped yours out MontyJ.

I ordered a mixed pack from Keene Organics and they sent some nice looking bulbs! also went to a garlic festival over in Orange, MA a week ago to stock up on a few types that didn't size up as nicely as i had hoped but i liked their taste and just wanted more for next year. i've been eyeballing some more bulbils on wegrowgarlic.com site too. my dh one of these days is going to :smack when he sees me giddy over all the garlic!

here's what i have to get in the ground this weekend:
Rosewood
Siberian Red
Killarney Red (didn't do as well as i hoped in wet area)
Bavarian Purple
Polish Jen
Legacy (got lots of small bulbs and some bulbils)
Susanville (loved the taste and had to get more at the fest)
Leningrad
Amish Rocambole
Brown Tempest
Georgian Fire
German Extra Hardy
German Red Rocambole (one SUPER HUGE bulb sent from Keene Organics)
Italian Late
Northern White
Persian Star (one SUPER HUGE bulb sent from Keene Organics)
Romanian Red
Music
Russian Red
Bogatyr
Gregorian Fire (think the farm got their name mixed up with Georgian Fire on this)
Transylvanian (only grabbed 1 bulb at the fest for some reason :idunno )
Belarus (just bulbils)

WHOA!! That's a crazy amount of garlic!! I just bought seed for one kind, Susanville, this year, and just planted it this week. I've grown it before and it seemed okay, but i think i need to get more compost and fertilizer to that bed in the spring.

You LOVE garlic. Is there much difference in flavor? I have no idea what type mine are.

i found Susanville to be somewhat sweet and mild and my mom loved it. she was loving a lot of stuff from the garden this year and that was a hit with her since i've never given her any since i never had enough to give away.

i did well prep the bed before planting last year and i think that is why i finally got some growing bigger than i tried previous years. and of course, my chickens didn't get to them this year either.

i sampled a couple this year and did notice some subtle flavor differences. the Siberian was a little spicy but didn't linger like i thought it would. i used it in my pasta sauce. I'm hoping to use my Polish Jenn this week to make some garlic bread. Music was good too, spicy and stuck around for a while but that was one i got from a farmers market so i decided to get some to grow. that one is common around here and same goes for German White. i saw tons of German White being sold at the festival.
