I suspect i'm in real trouble now. hubby has got the place fenced, shelter up. no more excuses allowed. in fact we went to an auction today for sheep & goats. I told him, 'no buying' we're just looking and learning. I almost didn't get him out of there without goats. NEVER buy animals at an auction.
looks like we're going to take a little road trip next week and get a few goats. Tex-master/boer mix. no bucks yet (if I can hold hubby off).

Are you planning on milking? Goats seem like an awful lot of trouble to me- cute though!

no, i'm not planning on milking. I would love to have goat milk, the cheeses, and the butter - but i'm not willing to make that kind of time investment. these will be meat goats. we have a lot of brush for them to clean up & by then we'll know if we want to keep having goats or not.
i'm sure hoping they're not a lot of trouble. we'll see

Goats can be fun, as long as you have a fence that will hold them! I got rid of my Nubians because they are such DRAMA queens, but I kept back a little Alpine that was bred to my Nooby buck. She has a cute little doeling that will never be told who her father is. Bwahahaha! They live with the hair sheep and aren't really sure if they are goats or not, which works for me. We don't eat goat, the hair sheep forage like goats without eating your trees or breaking through fencing and I have a Jersey cow so I dont need the goat milk except to make soap with I just have her because she is cute and a pet.

Just take it to heart, it's true when they say if your fence won't hold water, it won't hold a goat...and they go straight to your garden, favorites first!

If you find they don't stay well in what you have, Premier1 has excellent fencing that is easy to put up and move around and you just need a solar charger then you can stuff them anywhere!

peteyfoozer, that is the cutest baby.
I THINK our fence is good enough. it's a heck of a fence - but time will tell me what I need to know.
a jersey cow would be wonderful. but not in my world I don't think

it's funny, but I heard that Nubians were "drama queens". I sure like their looks.

we put a collar on the doe & a long leash & let them out to eat for about an hour, then led her back to the pen with the doelings following eagerly. it went perfectly. very soon they will be free to graze all they want. when they got back in the pen, they all laid down & began chewing their cud while our female german shepherd kept watch. the male is a little too eager to chase at this point. we had to call him off once.

I tried not to get too many fannies, but they were interested in other things rather than posing
