I don't give my livestock guard dogs baths........ THAT would make me unpopular! But on hot days they have no problem laying in a water tank. Go figure.
My boy is terrified of bathing i think something happened when he was tiny.

I just flannel wash him and he really enjoys it. This must feel like his mother licking him. I'm his mom but I draw the line at licking him :\

Funny how dogs react differently to water and a bath.

Garbanzo acts like it's about the most insulting thing that can happen!

A dog that I had 40 years ago seemed afraid of a very slow moving river. I lived about 200 yards away and the property extended to a little patch of lawn and a boat dock. She was grown but was very, very careful about even walking in the water. I thought that she would be okay. Dogs can swim. I carried her out, put her in deeper water, she swam back to shore. Soaped her up, carried her back out, dropped her in, she swam. Obviously, scared of the Water Monster! My advice - don't do as I did. She should have been bathed in a little basin, beyond sight of that wide river (& the Monster). She never would do more willingly than get her feet wet and never liked baths.

@Marie2020 It seems a lot of dogs either have a psychic allergy to baths, or to being very clean..

The dog I had before him would step into the bath, he really loved being washed.

I guess they are all different and sadly we cannot always know their past experiences.

all the dogs we had except one loved the water. one was a golden labrador and the other was a black lab and pointer mix and she would actually dive for rocks if you threw one in the pond and she'd find it and bring it back. she also loved chewing on rocks.

the german shepard we had didn't stay with us long, it kept running after semi-trucks and got hit the day after we finally got him to learn how to go up the stairs. :( poor doggie, i didn't even know it was chasing those trucks until after it got hit and then my brother told me. if i'd known it was doing that i'd have been keeping more of an eye on it. :( he was a nice dog and sure didn't deserve that sort of end.
