Thistle, SF Fog might do well for you, after all you don't have fog do you?

SmartRed, I would think that after trying 102 different ones, you would have planted more than 6 varieties that you liked. Maybe it is the right ratio after all. I planted 5 new ones last year and not repeating any of them!

German Gold had that nice mild and subtle flavor. I easily get overwhelmed by Tomato flavor. The Pineapple variety reminded me of this one. Smooth. Good. You'll like. Make a nice thick slice and put it on your barbecued Hamburger with a good sesame bun, just a smidgen of mustard, and enough ketchup to barely drip...

ok. i gotta go crash a barbecue...like right NOW!

The great thing about tomato seeds is they last forever with very little effort. You can keep your collection growing by adding varieties every year.

Nope! Never heard of any of those varieties except for SFFog and I've not tried that. Two years ago I planted 102 different varieties of 'maters. Last year I stuck to just six varieties. This year I have plans for a few different tomatoes if I can find a spot to plant them all. Just not enough room in the raised beds for tomatoes AND other veggies.

Love, Smart Red
I think I may have to mix tomatoes and other veggies, Smart Red. Trying to get 2 rows in a 4' bed didn't work so well last year for production on the north side. If I have to space them so far apart that I've only got the equivalent of 1 row, I'm not going to be too happy with that. Might be okay, begrudging them some room may make NO sense if I've got an expanded 2013 garden.

First off Mary, you haven't been contributing to, nor reading (!) that boring weather thread. I can tell! Thistle' has maybe been getting more sunshine than at my place but the never-ending freezing fog and dismal darkness here is driving me batty! But no, she isn't likely to have fog in the summer.

6 out of 102? I'm not terribly surprised. Some of my favorite varieties take too long to produce a ripe tomato and so have a very short harvest season. Continue to grow them? Probably not . . . Also, I have trouble making DW happy with her dislike of tomatoes with a more pronounced flavor. Nevertheless, I don't know that I'd ever have bothered with larger, non-red tomatoes if it wasn't for her. It is fun to have DW show that she likes them but . . . yeah, I like them, too ;)!

She has been singing the praises for Dagma's Perfection (on the cover of the 2013 Tomato Growers Supply catalog, by the way :)) but has Casey's Pure Yellow mixed up with Dagma's Perfection in her memory. Casey's is real early and plays out some before Dagma's comes on. She is forgetting Casey's and wondering why I'm planning on having more than 1 or 2 (Orange Minsk was her first love ) of the yellow/orange and even adding Gold Dust to the menu!

Me, I'm thinking that it isn't a good idea to put in too many of some of these with absolutely zero holding qualities - when they are ripe, you've got like 2 days to eat them! Lengthening the season makes sense and I hope that Gold Dust either produces over a longer period of time or can last better after harvest. See? It is like recruiting for some "depth to the bench" :p.

Besides, I'm not about to plant a whole bunch of those Orange Minsk plants and only get 2 tomatoes off each one of those huge, sprawly plants!

Steve, you are right, I haven't been reading your post on the weather. I just don't like weather posts, my apologies.
