We enjoy the cardinals, orioles and eastern blue birds. We watch them watching us most the day. I love watching them bouncing around on the tops of my sunflowers. Makes me smile and laugh, and I could just watch from the kitchen table for hours.

:)

Male cardinals are beauttiful, I have had them nesting in my yard for over 20 years. Not sure if its same pair, how long do Cardinals live, I know parrots can live over 50 years. While I see male all the time I only spot female in winter when trees are bare. Goldfinch I very rarly see.

Ahhh I love birds. There are always feeders out. I like to bring them in where I can really enjoy them. Right now we have some pretty little ruby throat humming bids visitng. The wren is very chatty and scolds me when I leave the house. :) We have 2 bluebird ouses that have occupants. While I occasionally see gold fich (I state bird) at our feeders, I usually see more purple finch and house finch. I would have to agree with SO Lucky. I like all the birds EXCEPT starlings and sparrows! Here is a photo I have shared befor, one I took several summers ago at our garden.

And one of a female Ruby Throat Hummer, not as pretty as her mate, but oh so sweet!

I have made a mistake.

In that earlier post I said that both eastern and western bluebirds are around here. Well no. I have kind of wondered how those 2 are separated but the ornithologists know better than I do. And, it is only the "western" that joins the mountain bluebird here . . .

So, Carol Dee's is the eastern . . . still looks like the one here . Pretty birds!

Yeah, i swear eastern and western bluebirds are the same dang thing, just separated breeding populations. Our mountain bluebird, well he's distinctive for sure! Saw one just the other day, such a gorgeous color!!

Agree on hate filthy sparrows. They and starlings are poster pictures of why we need importation laws enforced.

I'm sitting on the gazeebo having my coffee this morning. The sun is shining and the birdsong is everywhere. There is a gentle cool breeze blowing producing a musica tinkle from the wind chimes. The hummingbirds are already fighting over the feeders. What an excellent way to start the day :)

For some reason I thought western bluebirds had a pale blue breast, where the eastern bluebird has a russet breast. But maybe the pale blue breast is the mountain bluebird. Guess I could use the site digitS' linked, instead of pulling stuff out of my......hat.
