Maybe they are molting. How old are they?
We got them last year So lucky....they have been like this most of the winter. I'm not sure if they are molting or not.

Ridgerunner, we only used heat lamps on the coldest of nights.... they were red fluorescent lights.

So lucky, I didn't mean to high jack your thread. :he I hope you find your chicken.

No, she hasn't returned.
Wouldn't she come out of hiding at some point for water and food if she were broody?

I thought my littlest bantam was gone, eaten or something awful and I was heartsick. Turns out she was brooding a clutch of eggs that she had been secretly laying under the pallet that I use as a step into the coop. It was several days before I found her. She was absolutely silent and still. I didn't have a rooster so her eggs were not fertile.


I hope that that's what your missing hen is doing So Lucky. :hugs
