Our horse was not always interested in being ridden and would play his little game of running towards then past us when we showed up in the field and walked toward him. He would do this 2 or 3 times then tire of the game and we could walk up to him. Really, he could probably be led by holding his mane. He didn't appreciate a bit and we usually rode him with just his halter.

Willie would become beyond docile when children were set on his back.

That doesn't mean he wouldn't make mistakes. A couple times, I recall, it was like, "oh, am I standing on your foot?" He actually seemed surprise that I was becoming very stressed!

:D Steve ouch!
I was obsessed with horses for 13 years! I even got bucked off once when I was 5 and I still loved them! I always begged my dad to buy me one, but it wasn't in the cards.
I had a close friend way back then that let me help take care of her horse and that was therapeutic to my desire to be around horses.

There is a story of a gifted but vicious mare that was out in a field and small child wandered out to her. The adults were holding their breath bc they expected her to hurt the child. Instead, she was careful but just kept grazing.
Still, it takes training for a horse to behave as in your video.
Have you ever ridden a stallion? Or known someone who has?

All the Lipizzan Arabian horses in the above video are stallions trained in dressage and perform in horse shows around the world .
A tiny piece of horse history. General Patton and the US army saved this breed during World War II from extinction.

Dog gone it , it’s bath timr. Funny reactions from these pups.

i've known someone who has. our neighbor's relatives had a large indoor coral (50x200 ft) that they had events at. i never attended but i did visit them at times as a kid and hang out.

[ complete aside :) it was about 3 miles to walk plus it was near the large clay pit that was filled in with water that we'd go fish in and swim and stuff - if you pull up GM and look for Rothke Park west of Saginaw it is south of that and easily visible - we lived a few miles from that near Thomas Crossings (a manufactured home park near the railroad tracks - that wasn't there when i was growing up and in that area - there was another clay pit that was being actively mined when i was in that area which was fun because they'd leave train cars loaded with clay along the siding and we could go and get chunks of clay if we wanted to get muddy for fun, it was very white and clean stuff - eventually they turned that clay pit into a landfill and now that has closed but it is where we drop off recycling stuff that they don't want people to put in the dumps).]

they still own it.

i never rode any of their horses, but the few times i have horses i've been on were from the riding places where the horses are pretty mild mannered.

our last ride was sometime around when i was about 14 to 16yrs old... my sister and at least one of my brothers was with us plus some others too. it happened that the lead horse got spooked by a snake or something and took off and ran off - i think her or my brother got scraped off the horse they were on when it went through some brush and trees. i don't remember now if i got knocked off or not, i may have, but i don't recall that exactly any more. you'd think i would remember that sort of thing? so i'd guess i didn't. :)
