What Mickey said! My precious DH built 12 ten x five raised beds for me. Five feet IS too far to reach for proper working and I am rather tall. I would never tell DH that the size isn't perfect, but since you don't have yours built yet, why not skip the extra foot. I do make use of the hard to reach 6 square feet in the center by planting long season veggies and herbs that don't need much tending, but I'd much rather be able to reach everything.
