My problem is moles. They tear up the yard as well as the flower bed. Ground traps don't work so I just have to let the little rodents tear up the yard.

If you can reduce the number of grubs (japanese beetle, junebug) in your lawn, your mole population will drop considerably. Have you looked into the milky spore disease thing? It is not cheap or fast but I'm told it does real good (no personal experience). Checking over your lawn care habits can also sometimes make things less favorable for grubs.

Well, no holes in my bed in the last few days, but today I saw this:

(quarter next to hole for size reference)

Any ideas what it is from?

That's about the right size for vole.

Set some traps out. Maybe you can catch one and identify it. They have tons of safe traps out there. Concord Feed sells some.

Perfect... their semi-annual 20% off everything in the store sale is this Saturday!

That said, I've never seen anybody have success with underground rodent traps.

Get a cat.

And the thing with catching voles is you have to set the traps in their runways. Apples and peanut butter are good as bait.

And, now that I know that, I'll be there Saturday too. We're just finishing the coop and need some stuff.

Well, the story is getting better (or worse depending on how you look at it). The DW found a dead rat today (probably from poison in our attic). She thinks it was pregnant because of what came out of the rat when she picked it up to put in the garbage.... blah.

I'm just tired of vermin!

Hey OaklandCityFarmer, when you're out in these parts you should stop by the house to say hi. We're pretty close to Concord Feed.
