Okay I know many of you have been eating from your garden for weeks or months and I have been secretly hiding my jealousy ;). I had my first pea harvest today. Other than rhubarb and some volunteer lettuce, which were both wiped out with a hail storm at the beginning of June, this is the first harvest from the garden this year. I was able to harvest 6 pea pods. I can't wait for lunch! I tried a new variety of pea this year or at least new to me. It is called Wando. It is supposed to do well in hot temps. I guess it does since it has been so hot here. There are many more flowers and pods out there.

They will taste delicious, cityfarmer. I hope your garden starts producing by leaps and bounds, now!

We have planted Wando peas for years. We just had a spell of very hot dry weather. Peas stopped producing, After we started to water and temps cooled a little, they are blooming again. They have a good flavor. you will enjoy them.

cityfarmer, are these peas like green english peas? I never know if people mean green peas, snow peas, or sugar snap peas. :/

Congrats! Our peas have just started to plump up a bit in the pods. I am hoping that perhaps this weekend we can pick some. I picked a imature one this weekend just to try because I couldn't wait! They were good. :D

We really enjoyed our peas- they are done for now. I am letting some dry out in the pod for a fall planting. Enjoy yours!

I have the same problem ninnymary and baymule and I never remember when to plant peas (green peas, garden peas, english peas, sugar peas, snap peas, etc). I know to plant peas (crowder, blackeye, zipper, cream, pink eye, purple hull, etc) in July, lol.
