Got the tomatoes planted

Of course we planted some early girl,big beef, sun gold and celebrity, but we found a couple of interesting sounding types at the nursery that we decided to try: Oregon Spring and . . .uh oh, the plant marker is gone! Well I guess we will have a mystery tomato! Now we just need to find some sauce tomatoes and we will be set!

Well, if it sounded interesting, maybe a 2nd visit to the nursery will jog your memory, Skeeter . You know, if they didn't have sauce tomatoes on the 1st visit, they may have gotten them in moments after you left!

You have some of what I grow altho' I have never noticed a Celebrity in my garden. It is interesting how gardeners with real hot summers often feel they should grow the same varieties as those of us with difficult tomato-growing conditions for other reasons.

Oregon Spring is one of those in that whole bunch of varieties from Oregon State U. Not trying to discourage you from that 2nd trip (because I'd really like to know what the "mystery" variety is) but Totally Tomatoes claims Oregon Spring is good a sauce tomato. Maybe more of those would be a good reason to go back!

Congrats on getting the tomatoes planted! I have mine planted and have blooms on a few! I am already envisioning sliced ripe tomatoes!

Thanks for the info, Steve. Haven't even researched the Oregon Spring yet. Just wanted to try something different. If they are a good sauce tom then I should definitely get a few more.

Baymule, why does it have to take so darn long to go from blossoms to ripe deliciousness?

@skeeter9 I am the sort that runs to the garden the next morning expecting to see the seedlings from the seeds I planted the day before. Waiting on tomatoes is awful!

I lost 10 plants to the frost so I went out today and got heirloom, better boys? (maybe) the seasoned farmer (old guy)at the hardware store said it's to wet to "set them now" (spit onto sidewalk) "frost is done for the year" so I have new plants waiting to set, and on good authority they won't get killed! Waiting on tomatoes is like waiting for school to let out suddenly the bell rings and everyone is ready at the same time

Me too, Baymule! I guess I figure if I look at them enough they will suddenly grow like Jack's beanstalks!

Ugh! I've done that before, Honeycomb. It's like we want to
get them in at the earliest possible second so we can harvest as early as possible and Mother Nature wants to remind us to be patient. I don't understand that at all!

So true, I check my seeds every day and only noticed a few grass seeds sprouting why does the stuff we don't want grow so fast!!!
