For something like that mistake, I would think they have to prove intent to defraud. Seems harsh to hold people to innocent mistakes.

Then there is the fact that Spouse didn't place the ad. He had no culpability in the issue. It is possible anyone could post an illegal ad to get others in trouble. Get the name of the CL scanner? We could find her number and post an ad for her. Not using your own computer, of course.

If ya'll remember, @jackb ordered an olive plant from Turkey, had it for a year. One day a big black suburban drove up, man in black suit got out and inquired about the said olive plant. Jack said yes, he had to plant, man in black confiscated it and drove away. It took a year? Really? Our government is sure on the ball, makes me all warm and fuzzy feeling.

Ads on Craigslist? What sorry SOB's.

There is nothing too small that a fine can't be levied against it to generate revenue for the state. And a state that's sinking like the titanic can use all the fine money that can be bled from people. This is how compliance officers become indispensable tools and guarantee their jobs.

They will also park at home improvement stores and then follow any truck with out of state plates. If that truck pulls into a construction site they demand to see their license.

I'm glad it's behind us. To a couple of people who don't get so much as a parking ticket, this was unsettling. Our paltry (to them) $1000 couldn't have made an iotas difference in the states ledgers, but it had an effect on us to be less trusting, and doubt more. Maybe that was the real intent.
My husband has always had current licenses for his business. This made him feel like some sort of dodgy scoff-law.

Don't forget to vote, national and state and local candidates who are fighting AGAINST oppressive government!!! Everybody is sick of it, EVEN the guy who took my money this week at McDonald's, and I was pretty sure that he wasn't voting for MY presidential candidate because we were discussing the guy ahead of me openly smoking a joint (NOT legal to do so yet in IL). We BOTH agreed that we are sick and tired of the government (s) telling us what to do!
