Look at that face. How could you say no?
Last summer I had a grope of teenagers stop by my farm.
A grope of teenagers is a very funny way to put it and perhaps also very fitting.
They all spoke at once about buying chicks at the local Tractor Supply.....And I said, "So you brought them home and your Mom said no." And the store would not take them back. Weather they were directed to my house or not, I was in no position to add chicks to my flock. And my family life was crowded and chaotic. My neighbor across the street had had a big chicken kill from a wild animal and I knew she was low on birds. SO I directed them to her house. I got a laughing, yet exasperated call soon after. And I told her, "You were supposed to say no!" But in my heart I knew she would take them. She was thinking that her time might be coming to an end with chickens, but her husband was not ready to give them up. There is a local farm group on face book where I could have helped her get rid go them. She did end up raising them, and I can hear those girls squawking away as they lay their lovely eggs.
