Dh and I have 7 "adopted" grandkids. Maybe 9 if you count the brand new neighbors on our east side with an 8 week old daughter and 2 year old son.
The 2 year old calls dh "tractorMAN!" because he got to ride behind the tractor in the wagon with the other kids while dh towed them around the lawn.

It's not as heavy a responsibility as it would seem to me if they were my biological grand kids, because I realize I am ultimately dispensable, but it's still a responsibility dh and I take seriously, to try to be good examples and good listeners to them while facilitating some fun and good times.

It's quite amazing to me that we went from no kids in the neighborhood, to 9 practically overnight, and that their families are friendly and engaging.
We actually have a social life now. :D
I was invited to make zuke bread with one mom yesterday, then we just stayed for dinner. :)
We get invited to the kids birthday parties, and dance recitals and sports events, and I'm doing some remedial reading lessons with one of the girls this year. Sheesh! I don't have time for real grandkids!

Had quite a bit of pressure from my father over grandkids, Wanted family name carried on. Even after my sister had 2 kids, he would continue to pressure me. It didn't stop till at a holiday meal, I announced I was adopting a baby from Africa. Never brought subject up again LOL.

My next door neighbor lost both of her children to tragic illnesses. She ended up raising her daughter's 3 children and does have 2 great-grandkids. But she is such a sweet person and everyone loves her and comes to see her. To my two girls, she is an "adopted" grandma and she spoils them just the same. :)

My sons wife was born with spina bifida so I'll never have any grandchildren but she is a wonderful Daughter in law and you can't have everything.

Hey ??? We are working hard to be Grandparents to #7, ( #8 & #9 identical twins ) I haven't seen a single piece of advertising about this HOLIEST of Holidays while the stores are all decked out for Thanksgiving and a couple for Christmas already. How are our other grandkids know that it is time to shop for presents to us ? :barnie
