I laughed when I read Steve's post..True, we did take on the metric system many years ago, and no doubt it is here to stay. Whether it was good or bad change is a matter of opinion.

It was not, and is still not, an easy system of measurement to switch over to, after learning the Imperial system during my key learning (school) years. I find myself always converting metric measurements back to Imperial, so I can see them in my minds eye. The generation after mine will have learned the metric system in school, so it will be second nature to them. It's many of us baby boomers that are having difficulty with it.

I still think in terms of "miles per gallon" for instance, rather than kilometers per litre. So roughly 4.54 litres are in a Imperial gallon.
Now in the US there is different gallon, which is smaller again at 3.78 litres.

So I get better mileage per gallon in my truck, than an equivalent truck in the US., but the same mileage, if measured in miles per litre.
Good article and comparison here.

Back to tomatoes..I picked all the green ones in the garden today, as it's been really wet and several have started to show signs of splitting or rot!
The ones under cover are still slowly ripening, but this has ben the worst year I can remember for slow ripening.. weird after such a scorcher of a summer.:/
