Assuming want smaller tractor. Suggest to go with brand that closest dealer sells for service and ease of obtaining parts. Otherwise, I'd go with John Deere having the largest number of dealerships over country. If want USA made, check closely, ask questions as some brands you would think are USA, aren't. Smaller tractors may be assembled in USA but made with slave labor.

Heaven is where the bankers are Swiss, the policemen are British, the cooks are French and the mechanics are German.

Far too many of our products are foreign created and just U.S. assembled, which is a pity.

As such, are there any German tractor companies with a solid reputation?

Make sure the tractor you buy has enough HP to operate a baler. Mahindra and Kubota make good tractors for a decent price. The yellow and green :loveJohn Deere is a favorite, but has a hefty price tag to go with it. As far as baler brand, Vemeer. Replacement parts are from around the world, American Made might not mean doodley-squat.

I do like the John Deere web site above all others for the exploded views on parts. All other manufacturers keep their parts a big secret. At least with John Deere, you can "see" what you need. Sometimes there are variances on models and actually being able to see the parts breakdown is a big help.

Bluebonnet, we started our raised asparagus bed last year with 2/3 organic vegetable potting mix and 1/3 very aged steer manure. Our asparagus is just now starting to come up and it appears to be going like crazy. Apparently it liked that mix. Oh, and we also put bone meal and organic, fish-based, fertilizer down with each crown when we planted.
