My daughter grew some last year, the depth looked to me equivalent to they way iris's grow. Rhizome is just beneath the surface.

I'd also like to try growing ginger. I like the idea of purchasing organic ginger from the grocery store, especially since the S&H of buying seeds has depleted my $budget for seed buying this season.

She soaks for a week or two weeks in water with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, prior to.planting. Interesting read...

The more crazy plant things I try, the more I understand lots of water, to mimic spring conditions when it rains a lot.
