I once made a sweet potato pie, following a recipe.

It might fall under the same heading as:
I once made a pecan pie, following a recipe.
I once made a bourbon and walnut pie, following a recipe.

Too sweet! Might have been the wrong recipes but some of these things should be considered as confections, if'n I've got the correct meaning of that word.

Sometimes I've wondered why many sweet potato or squash dishes are considered vegetables instead of dessert, especially if they all for sugar to be added. But in some places cornbread is considered a dessert. With the right cornbread recipe I can understand why.

Dessert cornbread? Yeah! Just add crushed pineapple to the mix. Oorrr, creamed corn, an additional egg and a little extra sugar.

Bourbon and walnut pie, you got my attention. More details please.
