Well Mary, I once almost did - there in my Arcata garden.

It would take an experienced and well-traveled horticulturalist to do more than make suggestions and, important, try to draw from information online. I am so happy the internet came along but one of the easiest mistakes to make is to assume that growing conditions are the same from 1 location to another. A 2nd mistake is to assume that tastes are the same . . :p

Seems that I remember something about a Tigerella tomato, Mary. I do hope that you will have a chance to grow a Momotaro tomato. Not because I have any experience with it but just because I wish I could grow it here and think your interest in it is well-placed. If you or others are able to report your success with any plant, that just makes me aaalll the more willing to throw caution to the winds and try them here, in my hard-scrabble garden :).

Steve
who may be losing his 3rd peach, and this time a white one, this year. 3 peach trees in 40 years? i don't know if i can be trusted with another, or a nectarine!

Thank you!

There are other "oldsters" around here. First, of course, is our webmaster, Nifty. I don't know quite how the person who starts the forum "registers" but he has been around since what must be the 1st day: 11/12/2007.

Moments later . . . . he is joined by a small, intrepid group. You can find them showing up on the earliest posts in the "Forum Announcements" threads, for example. Our Silkiechicken moderator arrives :). So does TerrieLacy, who keeps an eye on us around here even yet.

Notably - and I say this without any shyness - Southern Gardener Joan is here by 11/22/2007 and yet, I don't think of her as an "oldster." Yes, you see, Joan predates me on TEG . . :) !

Steve
I wondered about that. Happy TEG Anniversary to Joan too!

Steve, I did grow those 2 tomatoes, Tigerella and Momotaro. I just didn't like them. The Tigerella was a little tart for me and the Momotaro was just an average tasting and looking tomatoe for me. I knew from the beginning that Tigerella wasn't for me since it's a cherry type and for some reason I don't like tiny tomatoes. :/ There is a local grower who is pushing for me to grow Exotic Blue Green next year. Somehow the name doesn't thrill me.

Thank you, kid! Saturn?

If it wasn't snowing and hadn't been all day and supposed to probably all night . . . I might be looking for a Geminids meteor shower tonight!

I know that it is easy for me to say but I had this idea of taking the Lazy boy out, hot cocoa, so many blankets and so much warm clothing that I couldn't move . . . .

:D

We watched them last night and they were awesome! Probably the best meteor shower I've ever had the opportunity to watch. They were coming in bursts of one right after another and were very bright with long trails. Even the 5-year-old's attention span was adequate and she was delighted. Tonight has been cloudless, but however hazy/foggy, so I couldn't see anything when I went out a little bit ago.

Wow! I can't believe it's been 5 years! I started out on BYC as a new chicken owner and got interested in gardening through some of the people on that forum.

Was TEG already up and running at that time? I can't remember. Anyway, I love TEG and I love you guys!
