I used to use apple wood many years ago when I lived down here before. Times have changed.

We used to visit my folks early December many years ago. Thanksgiving was with the wife's family and Christmas was by ourselves and other friends and relatives.. I did not want to travel north with the potential for snow and ice, so we made the trip in early December. This was after Dad was not in shape to do much. I'd prune the apple trees while I was up there and stack the debris in the garden with the help of my boys. In March my brother would burn the limbs and other trash wood after it had dried out to get the garden ready for planting. He lived a lot closer.

I always took some good apple limbs home with me for the smoker. Practically all I smoked was chicken. That was 30 years ago, times have really changed.

We got home yesterday in time to feed before dark. Dogs went nuts, so happy to see us. Steer bellowed until I fed him, sheep BAA! BAA! BAA! BAA'ed until I fed them and Prince volunteered to paw the gate while the others paced up and down the fence until I fed them. Chickens still had feed. Neighbor Robert fed for us while we were gone overnight.

There were only 6 of us instead of the usual 20 or so.

it is nice to be loved/needed, even if it is only because you feed them. :) haha! welcome home, doesn't it feel so good to come home after being away? every time we come back rolling up the drive we say how good it is to be home. :)
