Sorry about your mom City', :hugs I think when our parents age we worry about them as much as we do our kids.
It's wrenching to see them become helpless.
Jojo, it sounds like your folks have adapted well to their situation. My dad wants to move into a retirement community but my mom won't hear of it. She can be quite mule-headed sometimes.
Your story about the grandma was sweet That's what my great grandma did up until her death. She had a huge garden, mostly flowers
and she was in it every day . I want to go like that.

I love all the stories. I am from a gardening family also. My grandmother gardened until her death at 82. My mother is 81 and has a large garden and cans and freezes all summer. My aunt is 93 and still has a small garden. Two years ago she had to not have one because she broke an arm but all other times she has gardened. She lives in a city but has the most fertile and productive garden I have ever seen (carved from her yard). She composts and keep the garden in wonderful shape. She said a month ago she wasn't going to have one next year but last week spoke of what she would do next year if she was able. I personally feel when she can't garden she will die because that is what she lives for. She gives most of it away to neighbors. I even take fresh vegetables to my 95 year old aunt twice a week that the "younger" sister has raised. The older sister had to quit gardening a couple of years ago because of nothing left to cushion the back discs. I hope I can continue the family enjoyment of the garden.
