This time last year I had a pear tree planted along the street ( mislabeled as a crapapple) The tree had so much fruit a branch broke from the weight. Was at my weekend house, when I came back 7 days later tree was stripped of fruit only 3 pears at very top of tree. None was on the ground, Idon't think it was the wildlife. Have you ever found someone in your garden helping themselves?

As the garden is located 2 miles out town we would not catch them. I usually have so much I would not miss a little/few. The gall to take ALL the pears! Sorry that happened. We do have a few tomatoes and bell peppers planted behind the garage and I do think a few are taken from time to time by a neighbor. I am o.k. with that. Same with the rhubarb. But hubby gets crabby when the neighborhood kids start picking the grapes that hang over the back side of fence. Especially when they are still green and they only pick them to throw at each other!

You should get some signs "DANGER - Fungus treatment in progress - DO NOT TOUCH!" and hang on the tree when you're away.

So sorry this happened. In the area where I work, the common way of thinking is 'I want that. There is nothing to stop me from taking it, so it's mine now.' People dig up things out of business landscaping - take things off of each other's yards & porches - even take your coat off of your chair in a resturant if you go to the bathroom. :rant Some people just weren't raised right...

I had the same issue as Cat. We had 3 very full apple trees this year. One tree had about 30 apples. In about 3 days we went out and there were only 3 left when they were ready to pick. DD and I saw a squirrel that same day come and take 1 of them while we were out in the yard. The squirrels make quick work of stealing.

Next year, they're all getting covered in row cloth!!!!

We went on vacation several years ago to see Monty's brother. Monty had given my brother permission to pick some tomatoes so they wouldnt rot, while we were gone he called me and told me that all the corn was rotten so it wouldnt be any good when we got back. It was just fine by the way, what he didnt bother to tell me is he had picked a specific tomato that Monty told him NOT to pick!!!!! That was the last time I EVER let my brother in the garden!!!! He has not asked for anything from us since.

I guess I am just real lucky. My garden is in the front yard and unfenced. I do keep in mind not to tempt others, so I don't plant tomatoes out by the street. I plant potatoes, followed by sweet potatoes in the beds by the street. Most people don't even know what they are.

As Dew said, her brother picked a tomato I was growing for competition, after I specifically told him to stay away from those plants. The one he took was nearing the 4 pound mark. I just know he took it to work and showed it off as his own. He's that type of person.
