I think you're right! Unless you buy from a dedicated nursery you stand the chance of WalMart or Lowe's shipping plants to ALL of their stores that can only live in Southern Florida. I saw a white rose once, and the label said, "Zone 10."All of the hens and chicks I have had over the years eventually died out. Some that were supposed to be winter hardy weren't.
yeah...like I'm gonna just grow it inside!
Although...the lavendar, zone 4 rose that I prematurely bought for my DD 2 years ago has lived in the same pot and after I took it inside last November even flowered for me INSIDE!
REALLY tired of buying perennials for zone 5 that aren't Really zone 5.
