Hi from a Buckeye transplanted in IN

Hi from the IN/OH border. I am new to gardening but i am hoping to start trying and was pointed here for help with questions when I have some!

I finally kept my grocery store basil alive as well as propagated it, and my mint I planted last year came back! I know this isn't super impressive as they are both easy to grow but I am very excited!

I'm also attempting to grow Buckeye trees that I sprouted from seeds so crossing my fingers for successful transplanting of those.

Thank you! So far they are in gallon pots and seem to be doing OK! Hoping to transplant later this year.

Welcome Cricket! You've found a great place with great people who are very knowledgeable and willing to share their expertise with others. I tried growing basil under grow lights and only 1 out of 5 starts looks decent. I think my seed starter mix was too old. it was posted for free on one of my groups.

What else do you plan on growing? Zucchini? That's pretty easy.

Yes I'd like to do zucchini and someone said you can grow those in pots? I had no idea! I'd like to do more herbs and I'd love to try garlic!! We use a lot of garlic! I'm going to have to do a good amount of container gardening.

You can grow them in large pots, you just have to keep them well nourished and keep the water up. Zuke plants grow pretty big so they drink quite a bit on hot days, especially with those big leaves. I found out quite by accident that they also grow very well in part-shade. I stuck an extra plant in a shady spot, as I hadn't the heart to toss it in the compost and it flourished better there than any other zuke I had grown in full sun. It actually never developed powdery mildew on its leaves either, something I struggled with in full sun locations.

I'd like to do more herbs

There are some great herbs you can grow which are not difficult - cilantro, parsley, dill, chives. I enjoy growing all of these and it takes virtually no effort, and once planted the chives come back every year as a perennial.

Love a perennial . I picked up a bunch of seeds but now I'm second guessing myself and thinking I should go with plants instead lol.
