Hi, I am new...

[Branching Out]

I am still needing to learn composting. I am not really strong enough to turn it is the problem. But my friend told me to be careful where I buy my soil because there is no telling what bad stuff could be in it. She talks about good soil often. My thumb will one day green up, lol.

I would recommend reading Compost Science for Gardeners, by Robert Pavlis. Some sites recommend it as a good book for those new to composting. I have been composting for decades, and I really enjoyed reading it.

DH had a dentist appointment this morning and we were early. not wanting to sit in the parking lot, we drove around a few minutes. We passed a guy raking leaves and lots of big black garbage bags. I told DH, go back and let's get those leaves! DH-you're crazy! Me-no I'm not, I have to clean out...

My Chicken Composters at Work!

Today I pulled up some volunteer milo or sorghum (the red round grains in the hen scratch) the sprang up in the garden bed. Evidently the grains escaped the girls attention and they made it through the composting, shoveling, raking and being planted next to squash and a stray okra for neighbors...
