We are one of the rural areas that hasn't had access to high speed internet service, but we have been told it is going to be available soon. Workers in trucks have been laying cable and putting big boxes along the highway. Our electric service is going to be the …..Middleman?....with Spectrum the provider.

So, of course, this is exciting for us, but now we are wondering what will be the best plan for us regarding TV viewing. I am a news junkie, and we both like nature and science programs.

Almost never watch sports, except occasionally motorcycle racing and fishing/hunting shows (DH, not me), and the modern sitcoms don't really do anything for us, either. Actually, we don't watch movies, either, but probably will if/when we have more control over when they are on.

You who have Hulu or Netflicks, or some other streaming service, do they provide all the stuff you want to watch, or do you have a local bundle for news and network shows, ie; NBC, CBS, PBS?

Youtube tv allows your local channels, 6 unique user (by separate email login) so my wife and I have it on our phones and we cast it to the chromecast dongle(antenna) plugged into the smart tvs. Netflix is raising their rates again but generally I would say roku is the way to go, because roku plays nice with both google and amazon, which means that roku box can download the youtube tv app and the prime video app which is free if you have amazon prime already. I pay 40 per month for the youtube tv app. It may have a better interface on a pc than my phone. Just bear with the idea that an antenna will work as well, and that its a computer more like a tablet or smartphone than a pc or a tv

Spectrum what a joke around here we call them "rectum cable" cuz they sure stick it to you.. i really hope that they are better for you than what we have...
we are the last house on what they call a "nod" their signal is so degraded by the time we get it we are rebooting the modem once a week. our complaint/ asking for a technician is longer than most criminals rap sheets... and after 5pm the call center switches over to india...

i doubt it will ever make it here other than via iPhone/Cellphone or such. my internet comes via radio towers (not cell phone service) and it's not all that fast but good enough for the price. the landline phone is on the last legs, don't know how long that will continue. i'm sure ATT would love to get rid of it entirely. they have to send someone out a few times a year to clean the mice out of the phone-wire cabinets when the line gets really bad.

we get PBS via the tv antenna we have up on the chimney. we don't have cable tv. neither of us wants it after seeing how much it costs for what you get (tons of commercials and a lot of stuff we don't want to watch). we're not sports watchers.

good luck. :)

We have netflix, amazon prime, and youtube. We don't miss cable. Between netflix and amazon we get plenty of stuff for us and the kids.
WARNING: If you purchase movies on amazon prime, you usually just get the english language track vs DVD english, french, and spanish are usual. Frustrating cause we figured this out after we bought a bunch and they are useless for language training.

I have Century Stink, and the speed is a lousy 5 mbps for internet. Directv is $90 a month.
I don't know exactly what speed the internet we have now is, just not quite enough to watch movies, and we pay around 65 bucks a month for that. Then Dish network is about 120. Then my phone is another 90. Geeze!

I haven't had cable in over a decade. I use netflix to watch documentaries, and my husband has a subscription to watch anime. If I want news, I have an app on my phone for that.
