Sometimes I just throw a way the Logees catalog before I open it. Otherwise I have my big red marker our circling all the plants that I just have to have!

i just threw one of their catalogs away this morning. first time i ever got theirs was this past spring. i almost couldn't resist ordering, but at the time i wasn't working and knew my dh would have a fit i spent money for more plants.

btw, anyone buy or have figs trees? i suddenly have found some people selling cuttings on ebay and wanted to see how well they have been growing for others or if there is a reputable person to get them from. i'm also thinking of getting some of those sub zero kiwi vines, but those will have to wait till early spring. (think i saw Hirt's trying to sell the kiwi plants but i know to avoid them :p )

I think you would have to overwinter figs indoors. My Godfather had one that he kept for years in this way with great fruiting success.

yeah, you can bring them in for the winter and let them go dormant. or you can keep them pruned short and make an insulated A frame to cover them over. there's a guy in Ontario who keeps many types of figs with success in getting them to produce. some grow better in containers than others. makes me wish i picked up a fig tree while i was at the garlic festival in MA last month.

btw, this is the guy's site in Canada that grows the figs. http://adrianosfigtrees.com/index.html

I have two varieties of figs. The Brown Turkey fig I'd had about 6 or 7 years old until I lost the mother to my drought (2012) and have her baby growing now. The other fig - I'd have to go outside to see the variety name - was a gift from a plant trading friend and is currently fruiting. I've eaten one fig and the other is nearly ready. I have always brought mine inside the sun room for the winter, but there is a way to grow them outside in zone 5 and warmer with the proper protection.
