Coming home from work I was waiting at red light when I got sideswiped by a senior. 2nd time I have been hit stopped at a light. I did feel sorry for the old man he was shaking and begging me not to call his insurance. He had just got his car back from repair shop. He is paying out of pocket to fix my car. I did have police write report in case he changed his mind. I don't think he should be driving but I am not DMV. This happened in downtown White Plains rush hour, there where 4 cars ahead of me stopped for light. How he did not see me stop is scary, downtown you have large numbers of people in crosswalks.

Yeah, you are not DMV. Wonder why his car was fresh from the repair shop. We've had a lot of discussions recently on older people but that's usually relatives. With a stranger like this I don't think there is a lot you can do.

Geeze! Glad you're ok. I've been hit twice at red lights. One was so hard it popped my hood. I was sore for DAYS after that one. The other was a teenager who just tapped the bumper. He was so funny - scared to DEATH. I kept telling him not to worry about it since he didn't even knock the dirt off.

I HOPE that this gentleman will consider letting somebody else drive FOR him. Our lovely elderly neighbor, "N" (using the same identification of persons as Charles Dickens used to) drives out every day to see her friends and, in her own words, "to help the old people", has trouble choosing a lane, which I discovered driving past her on the main drag outside of town this past summer. I thought that she had started to back up into my trash can, but then found out that that our town has a criminal group knocking over trash cans and looking for ID information. These boys' father has been convicted of identity theft and they are keeping faith with the "family business."
ReGARDless, it could just as easily have been that She did back into my can.
Erratic driving is rampant. DD's got hit from behind stopped at a stoplight by this 19yo who was texting. Totaled both cars, no permanent injuries. Same DD, now asst. SA (traffic) is handling a case where a homeless (and drunk) man in a wheelchair was killed. There was a good Samaritan witness who stopped HIS car and put on his flashers in the fast lane, but the homeless man had waited until the last two seconds to decide to use the crosswalk and he was wheeling Backwards. The defendant, irritated by the guy with the flashers, flew by him, hit the homeless man and killed him. The defendant also had cannabis in his system, which was confirmed by a timely blood draw (which unFORTUNALY doesn't always happen in our county due to cops that love to write tickets and get paid overtime pay going to court, but write mediocre police reports.)
NOBODY can convince me that his driving wasn't impaired. Embarrassed to say that I used pot while in college and I know what it does to your perception of reality. Sad to say that only the homeless man's granddaughter gives a DamX about him.
ALSO, Tree of Paradise smells like pot when you burn it.

Glad you're ok Nyboy.

I got rear ended at a light on a freeway off ramp. I had my tool trailer hitched to my truck. It was an old guy whose son asked me not to report to the insurance company. I wouldn't have, except how was I to know he would actually have my truck and trailer repaired?

My MIL refused to stop driving with terrible vision. Insurance dropped her and she found a very expensive company to cover her. Soon she hit a Grandma and Grandchild because of vision. They were OK but she Ended up in a nursing home without life threatening injuries. Her husband was already there. I asked how far taxi costs would have taken her instead of the expensive insurance. She "Never thought of that." The police did not arrest her but, took her license. It could have been so much worse. Sometimes they need intervention.

We were hit once going through an intersection, we had the right away, no stop sign no light. The guy that hit us ran a stop sign. Thankfully we weren't seriously hurt but the front of our station wagon was crunched, hubby saw him coming and hit the brakes if he hadn't we would have been broadsided. The guy driving the car opposite of us jumped out of his car and ran over to see if we were all right, we were a bit shaken but alright, he said you've got a good witness if you need one, luck was on our side he was a police officer on his way to work. Then he went over to the other driver and had a few words :).

My sister-in-law was T-boned at a traffic light by a little boy in his mid-40's. Mommy got him out of that one too, it wasn't his first time running a red light an causing a serious accident. Sister-in-law almost died and has never fully recovered. This was years ago and she's still going to doctors on a regular basis. She lives with pain and has physical limitations. Her spirit is remarkable, she still goes a lot but her quality of life (as well as my brother's who has to deal with things) is not what it could have been.
