Hopes for Your future Garden

I just saw this thread since I'm not on here much.

Anyway, I will be retiring sometimes this summer or fall. I can't wait to get rid of all my preschool stuff! Right now I have a climbing structure in the middle of the yard which the kids love. But I plan to remove that as soon as I can. The nice thing is that I can easily sell it for $100. I couldn't decide between something pretty in that area or something useful like more veggie space. So I will combine the two. In the middle will be a David Austin rose. Around that in a circle will be 5 Hidcote lavendars. Then I will make 4 brick paths radiating out. In each quad I plan to plant veggies. I'm so excited about this space.

Once the sand table and playhouse are gone I will have more room to expand my outdoor workout area. This will give me more breathing room.

having never heard of this before, good reading, did you know the seeds are edible? description of harvesting them is amusing:

"Great care and caution is advised in collecting the seeds. Tull suggested wearing long pants, long sleeves, boots, and gloves to pick the seed pods with a pair of tongs, then dropping them into a paper sack and waiting for the pods to ripen and burst in the sack to collect the seeds. They are said to be appetizing and tasty with a nutty flavor."

I don’t give a rat’s durn about collecting the seeds to eat. I HATE Texas Bull Nettles and have much better things to eat—that I don’t have to wear a suit of armor to pick! LOL Those things are terrible.

My hopes for this year is to just find the time to garden, period. With only two days off a month and 60+ hour workweeks, everything that isn't work has been put on the back burner. My gardens are being eaten alive by bindweed, and I just don't have the energy to even get started.

If you can part the weeds and pick something, I call that successful. Why has work have you putting in so many hours?

it's too bad those teleporters haven't been invented yet, on days like today when i feel like i could do something outside, but can't i could wing over to someone else's place and help out for a bit and then wing back in time for an afternoon nap. i've got the Creeping Charlie weeded for a week or so before i'll check it again for whatever i've missed so something like Bindweed would be just another weed to get after.

Going to be a strange crop year here again... too cool in the spring and only now are the tomatoes getting little green marbles, which is about 6-8 weeks behind.

My 'future garden' would be the completion of THIS garden, as in keeping the ****** deer and squirrels out of it without having to cover each bed with deer netting. A couple of fencing posts, and some 2"x2" hog wire panels, and it could be done....

sorry about the whine, it just seems I don't have enough hours to even get the basics done, much less projects. *sigh*

Small broccoli plants are in a planter waiting to be properly planted. I may have to start growing them in pots for now. Praying that I can manage too get a real vegetable garden going.

just keep chipping away at what you can. eventually it happens. i've had some projects here going at least 15yrs already. procrastination is just someone else's idea about what they want you to do.

We are making a big graden (most of it has grass and endless ivy only when we moved in) into smaller areas with different topics. Last year the vegetable area was done, and this year so far the orchard is 50% something. Still a long way to go, but the process itself delivers already.

It's been two years and still not even begun here but I have it in my mind, THIS WILL BE DONE!
