I have 7 sunflowers in my garden, and I have stripped down tomatoes. I sprayed BT yesterday, but am away for 2 days. I'll be interested to see if there is further damage when I return home.

I grow lots of Autumn Beauty and some Black Oil Sunflowers.

And, there were American Goldfinches out there amongst them that last time I was there . . . no seed, they haven't been blooming that long.
