Does anyone grow it? Do you prefer the purple or white? For anyone not familiar with it, it grows kind of like an above ground turnip, but tastes more like a broccoli/cabbage cross. Sweet, kind of crunchy.

We love it. Have only grown the white. Last years crop was dismal. Too hot and dry. I enjoy it best eaten raw.

Sure!

Mom used to give me peeled broccoli stems, to keep me quiet before dinner. Yep, that is what kohlrabi tastes like! It is a stem.

I don't go for the huge varieties and can't remember having grown the purple, maybe. Round is important. That is when you harvest them. Don't let them go until they are elongated - too old & they toughen.

Other than that, give 'em just as good of conditions and grow them just as fast as you can! There are some surprisingly cute, new varieties out there.

Dh loves it. Very easy to grow- I've only grown the white. It makes for something "different" in the garden. If you have room, try it.

Yes, I've grown Kohlrabi for years. Always have a few starting or finishing through the summer. DH loves them, and, since I like them and they are easy to grow, they find a place. I have grown -- and like -- both Vienna White and Vienna Red.

I grow both Vienna Early White and Vienna Early Purple (Red for some ;)). Very easy to grow for me as both early Spring and late Fall crops. Flavor is a bit strong for some but I like it. The purple adds great color in the garden, if you haven't grown it before, and would be really pretty in a CSA basket! I actually started some seed earlier today for early transplants - hope "springs" eternal!

I grate them up with some carrots for an easy Kohlrabi slaw as well as cubing them into stews and stir fries. How do other folks like to cook them?

I grow kohlrabi and was never crazy about it, but put it in my salad. Then I had oven-roasted kohlrabi, that was delicious!
