the house was old not a lick of insulation underneath the floor the walls had probability r-2 in them, the windows were single pane... all the window got covered with plastic every fall except 1 thats where we would grab from to load up for the day and night, once it was to low to grab from we would go out and reload it from the furthest pile of wood<that was a once a week job> if we knew that a big snow storm was coming, i mean a 4-6' dump we would haul and stack wood in front of the old fireplace<we were told not to use by the owner>. we would keep paths shoveled out to all the piles, a couple years it was a losing battle, we were digging down to the tops of the piles. the only thing that was always shoveled out was the propane tank. usually by the time spring rolled in we would have about 1 cord left of fir... so yes a slave, but enjoyed living there....
